Wal-Mart Rumors

The same week Putnam County loses one big business they also gain another. Putnam General Hospital announced Tuesday its closing its doors. But just the day before the deal closed on a new Wal-Mart Supercenter in Hurricane. It will mean hundreds of jobs and many say more convenience to get the things they need.
And that's why other communities are also hoping that Wal-Mart will build more stores in our region. Newschannel 3's Laurabree Austin separates fact from fiction when it comes to letting your know if the giant supercenter has plans to come to your area.
The Charleston area alliance says Wal-Mart is the states biggest private employer, there are over 10-thousand people working for the company. But as we learned, the topic of Wal-Mart can also spark a lot of emotion.
South Charleston already has a Wal-Mart, but the city was hoping to work with the supercenter on another project...
Bob Anderson is from South Charleston, "they were looking for a distribution center on FMC property on flags pond but not interested at this time.".
We also learned rumors in Kanawha City, Elkview and Boone County were just that, rumors.
Quincy is the hub of activity for eastern Kanawha County and for over a year rumors have been flying about a new Wal-Mart that would be near Riverside High School. But the real deal in Quincy is this, for two years negotiations have been ongoing and recently Wal-Mart did drop off building plans with the county but they have not returned yet for a building permit. But if they arrive that likely won't be all that comes.
Bill Goode is with the Charleston Area Alliance "when a Wal-Mart comes in it's certainly like it has a multiplier affect on the area, you can go anywhere in the country see cookie cutter type of development."
And that's getting ready to happen out in Putnam now that the Wal-Mart deal is done. Aanother developer has already come in and has about 7 acres they plan on leasing. That company is out of Florida, it's called the Second Half Development Corporation and they often are right behind Wal-Mart. Also the Putnam County Development Corporation still has property at the Wal-Mart site they plan on leasing.
