CHARLESTON, W.Va. (WSAZ) -- Even though the constant election hype is out of sight, it's certainly not out of mind for the people looking to take the posts.
While winning an election takes a whole lot of hard work it also takes a bit of luck.
Delegate-Elect Doug Skaff says he didn't let nerves get in his way on Election Day.
Instead he was campaigning until he could no longer, "I think it's important to show the dedication, I've mastered the art of standing on a corner and waving with a sign," Skaff said.
So as the candidates watched the returns come in we wondered about their good luck rituals
"I went to the grocery store today, I voted and then I went home and cooked which was shocking to anyone in my family," Congresswoman Shelley Moore Capito said.
She also said she counts on her family for a little luck, "my good luck charm is my brother he lives in Virginia and he's come every time," Capito said.
Barack Obama played basketball on election night.
Some of his male campaign staffers in Ohio didn't shave days before the election all because Obama pulled ahead in the polls.
As for McCain, he wore that lucky rubber band on his wrist for a while.
"I don't have any little ritual," Skaff said.
But a little good luck charm never did any harm.
