CHARLESTON, W.Va. (WSAZ) -- When 6th grader Josiah Cook got the news he'd been invited to the Jr. Presidential Youth Inaugural Conference he couldn't believe it.
"I was real excited when it came in the mail," said Cook.
Every four years, the Jr. Presidential Youth Inaugural Conference is a program that invites 5th through 8th graders to the nations capitol to attend the presidential inauguration.
This year seven students from West Virginia will attend the inauguration, watch the inaugural parade, and hear from former leaders like Colin Powell and Al Gore.
"I'm excited about just getting to be there to see history in the making with the first African American President being elected," Cook said. "That will be an awesome thing."
While the 11-year-old isn't sure if he'll make a career out of politics yet, he does have some advice for President Elect Barack Obama.
"I want to see the economy get better. I want to see stocks go up a little better," Cook said.
The student will also take part in their own "Inaugural Gala." This is the only event Cook says he's not looking forward to attending. He says he could do without getting dressed up.
He's already looking to the future with plans to keep a journal and put together a photo album to show to his children one day.
The Jr. Presidential Youth Inaugural Conference runs from January 17-21.
