Maytown, KY (WSAZ) -- A man is accused of fatally shooting his wife of less than a week early Thursday morning in Floyd County, Kentucky.

Kentucky State Police say Joshua A. Mock, 26, called dispatchers at 2:47AM Thursday morning and told them he'd shot his wife Linda in the neck. Investigators say the couple had been fighting and the situation had escalated. Troopers arrived at the home on 38 Dogwood Heights in Maytown and took Joshua Mock into custody.

Linda Mock was taken to St. Joseph Hospital in Martin, Kentucky where she died a short time later. She was 28. Her body has been sent to the State Medical Examiner in Frankfort for an autopsy.

Joshua Mock claims he shot his wife in self-defense but investigators believe he intentionally killed her. He is charged with murder and is currently lodged in the Floyd County Detention Center.

Neighbors say the couple got married last weekend and say they never noticed any trouble between the two.

Police say they don't know what led to the couple's argument.

this is sad. i bet he did it just because he was tired of his wife.

Why is everyone fighting over stupid stuff on here? This is for Josh & Linda & their baby Brooklyn. I've known Josh for a long time & most of these comments everyone is making is irrelevant to this situation.

pablo, sounding as stupit as you are its a wonder he hasnt killed you yet, you sound like a complete mental person,i hope before your time comes that you wake up and see the light!!

could i just please say that someone has lost a daughter, someone has lost their mom, sister, friend etc....her family and her friends may come to this site to read these comments for comfort etc.....if you feel the need to fight, belittle people etc....could you go somewhere else....for the sake of this young girl, her child, her family and friends. i dont know her or any of them, but i think it is so disrespectful to read some of these comments.

women are hard to deal with. But so are men. I know that because I am a homosexual. Ive been with the same man for 6 years. I love him and I hope our silly arguments would never lead to this. Good day.

You comment is insulting and ignorant, but I dare say that is what you want. You are just trolling for attention. With this said I need to point out that just because you live away from this area doesn't mean violence doesn't exist. Murdered Wal-mart worker ring a bell? People are murdered every day by people they trust, and that is the true tragedy.

Pablo said he lost someone that was in their 40s not in the 1940's.

Posted by: Sherry on Dec 1, 2008 at 07:31 AM
To anonmymous: Do you have a problem with reading comprehension? Just asking. He didn't say in the 40's goof, it was his friends who were in their 40's. Try going back to school.

This is not only sad because there was a life lost...for whatever reason. It it terribly sad to know such a beautiful little girl now has to grow up without a mother and a father. My heart goes out to this beautiful child..may GOD watch over her and keep her safe.

Posted by: Anonymous on Nov 30, 2008 at 09:27 PM
Pablo, you lost someone in the 40's due to a cell phone? Cell Phones were not around then, so back off and stop posting irrelevent post here!

Unfortunately all too often the minute a woman says "I do" and gets back home the abuse starts. I know - it happened to me. I've had furniture overturned on me, been kicked, hit, strangled, threatened with all manner of things (yes, including death) and the autorities have never done anything. I'm no longer young and in poor health, but am trying to find a way out of this mess. Men, please treat your wives and girlfriends with respect, especially in front of your children...you are their example of how a man should behave and what a woman should expect in marriage. Don't take out your frustrations or bad moods out on the woman you have vowed to love and cherish...work it out by taking a walk or doing some physical exercise. You'll be healthier and so will your family as a result.

to shawn on Nov 28, 2008 at 06:26 PM...you're a moron. Idiots are all over the place, not just in KY, Southern OH, and WV.

Posted by: Pablo on Nov 30, 2008 at 10:18 AM
The real Pablo (me) only uses my one name. But I have seen posts in here from someone claiming to be me (Pablo). And, whether you care or don't care about my posts, doesn't really concern me in the least. I know some of you are tried of my posts about mobile telephones, but I lost two close friends (in their 40's and with children still at home) because of someone using a mobile phone while driving. This idiot drove left of center in a curve while chatting on his cell phone and hit them head on, killing both. Mobile phones while driving kill. And to Shawn, if you are so tired of us "hillbillies" let me know as I can show you many roads that lead out of W. Va. I'd gladly help you pack and leave. I feel I can speak for most West Virginians when I say, "Just go, we don't want you here no more than you want to be here." To all, have a great day.

Posted by: deb on Nov 30, 2008 at 10:12 AM
What does (HILLBILLIES and GUNS dont mix) comment about! Shawn? Mabe one of the Hillbillies could lay their GUNS aside and show you the Hillbilly stomp! Bullies like you or mabe I should say IDIOTS like you and this triger happy chicken-@#%^ dont need guns to whip KY women, or mabe you DO! Shawn you are more than likely an abuser yourself, and very sick minded!

Posted by: Anyon on Nov 29, 2008 at 07:30 PM
CLearly this was an act of Domestic Violence. A few of you need educated on this subject. This is not something that just happens to "hillbillies", or it is nothing to joke about, "bad turkey". This is a serious epidemic that occurs every day. Abusers wear a coat of many colors. Doctors, lawyers, police officers, McDonald workers, and of course those SSI artists that "draw" a check on the first of the month. People need to wake up and recongnize the signs, so that tragic accidents like this one doesn't happen. Help is out there. God Bless Lindas' family.

Prayers are with the family. Hey Me, think this story is funny? How sad, hope something bad never happens to your family.

Posted by: Amy on Nov 28, 2008 at 11:24 PM
After reading her myspace and then his it appears that she had just opened one up. Makes me wonder if she then looked at his and read those comments from others and they argued about it. Just a thought.

Posted by: k on Nov 28, 2008 at 10:15 PM
Hey Anonymous, I checked out her myspace and that is definitely her. This is such an odd story. He (husband/killer)left her a my space message 9 hours before he shot and killed her. I guess things went south pretty quickly. She wasn't a bad looker either. What a shame.

Posted by: shawn on Nov 28, 2008 at 06:26 PM
hillbillies and guns don't mix...freaking sad. My advice to young people of the tri-state don't drop out and go away to school and never ever come back...alot of country doesn't have to deal with these things as normal.

  • Posted By: KeithAnon. it would seem Big Earl is sick of you too. And Food for Thought, great comment, Cecil Roberts is a joke and a sorry excuse for a labor leader he seems to as big a dunce as his buddy Obama. Look at the union under him and figure it out. So hows the hope and change working for everyone? Another half million jobs lost in June. Trace it back folks, the economy went belly up when it bacame apparent the democrat party was going to nominate a radical, ignorant, inexperienced marxist to their ticket. Economists tell us that full employment is considered at an unemployment rate of 4.7%, a year ago unemployment was at 5%. But you all know, Bush was soooo stupid. Look at how the war in Iraq turned out...ooops can't use that one, look at how great the economy is now...oops, can't use that one...well everybody hated us when Bush was in office and now everybody just loooves us and helps us out in the world, well, oops, look at N. Korea, Iran, can't use that one. Some of you really got fooled.
  • Posted By: Bob & MegWhat I want to know is how many times does the water company have to be notified that water is coming up from the street on East Gardner Ave. in Belle? Bugs are getting bad and sometimes it has a sewer smell to it. Get on the ball WVAWC!

  • Posted By: food for thoughtWSAZ I ask of you please do a a follow up story of the 6 weeks of rain that we had so some of these people who have forgotten will have some miniscule sense of thereselves to know that ALL THAT RAIN would cause flooding anywhere. Here is another story. Find UMWA president MR. Roberts and ask him why he hasn't come out and had his brothers and sisters to be involved in keeping there MTR jobs. All these people that say Massey is a Union breaking company should be worried in salvaging the jobs they do have. It's not rocket science, UMWA supports Obama, in return Obama may reward them. This may be from left field but believe I am on to something. Isn't it strange the protesters only target Massey. Most of them are led to believe there are NO union jobs in WV. HOW STRANGE!? Here is the hunch I have WV politicians don't like Don B and the Union supports Obama. So sounds like a money trail to me for the hippies. Just a thought, but makes for good reporting. Big Earl lets make the idea reality!
  • Posted By: To Fat EarlYou're losing! Ha,Ha!
  • Posted By: DianeBuck, I agree. When it comes to kids playing sports (not just in the summer), the parents are CRAZY! They just need to "cut the cord" and allow their children, the refs, and coaches worry about the games. Now if you have a parent who is a coach just watch out...that is a double wammy!
  • Posted By: jbugi saw on the news this morning obama is in russia and he took the family, people are upset about gov of south carolinia takeing a trip on taxpayers money, witch he agreed to payback, is obama going to pay for his familys plane tickets, hotel bill, food and entertainment or will it us taxpayers.....
  • Posted By: I for one am sick and tired of reading the same bs that big earl keeps spewing out. All you ever hear is peta, tree huggers, hippies. People who made a difference in this world and who are smart enough to care, should be honored instead of being bashed by some people who have the mentality of the monkeys who they believed they evolved from. also big earl keep on believing that your idol, who you worship and adore so much is smarter than a nasa scientist, apparently you haven't been around any smart people.
  • Posted By: bias obiousif anyone has had a dought about left wing liberal news bias, heres a glaring clue.anti coal party, news, with video.tea party, productive people concerned with socialism, taxed into poverty,a czar run government, etc,no video ,a disintrested report, yawn, yawn, yawn.thankfully we now have an alternative to this liberal bias with conservative talk radio, internet news ,alternate t.v. etc.there is a good article on world net daily about the vietnam war.hollywood was running the war then too.
  • Posted By: buckwhy is it w/ summer sports it seems the parents make it all about them instead of the kids. am i wrong or do alot of these parents seem to want to relive life again through the kids. or even worse make a claim to being so good at whatever the sport the parent did that they push the kid all because of what they did 'or never did'. These parents also seem to be the really high ego type person. funny thing is if the parent was so good then why arent they pro or at least a great college player. what i have noticed is the the kids w/ the parent who did play college or was on the verge of being pro does not press the issue. they allow the kids to play ball. just my opinion
  • Posted By: Big EarlWell hello again good working coal people of WV this is Big Earl and I hope everyone had a nice holiday wouldn’t it be nice if we could have a holiday or one of them permenant vacations from all the tree hugger types and hippies that are barging into our communities uninvited tying to run all our jobs off. Well good people I am calling on those who have the means to do so and you know who you are so lets pony up some cash and have our own protest here in the coal fields to support our coal miners. I seen on this very TV station where the tree huggers held a rally and a cookout with a bunch of Grateful Dead hippie wanttobees singing about the trees and polar bears but we can do one better. We can have it down at the coal festival in Madison people I say invite some real singers who aint got above there raisin like WV adopted son Mr. Charlie Daniels and how about Alabama since they have coal down there to. Invite Gov. Joe and them people from Washington DC that is a good way to find out who is pretending to be a friend of coal and who is really on our side. We could even make Mother Jones bobblehead dolls to give away I for one would like to see her set loose on these tree huggers that have invaded Cabin Creek trying to run off her beloved coal miners. You could pull a string and she would say #** !!##**!! Tree huggers.
