COLUMBUS, Ohio (AP) - Ohio's deer-gun season has opened with state wildlife officials expecting hunters to bag at least 115,000 deer.
The season that started Monday allows the legal hunting of white-tailed deer with a gun from one half-hour before sunrise to sunset through Dec. 7. The Ohio Division of Wildlife also has scheduled an extra weekend of gun hunting Dec. 20-21.
Officials have estimated a pre-hunting season population of 700,000 white-tailed deer. They expect about 400,000 hunters will kill between 115,000 and 125,000 deer during the season.
State officials say the white-tailed deer is the most popular game animal in Ohio. Ohio ranks sixth nationally in annual hunting-related sales.

Well Paige, you have every right to be concerned by this. However, any responsible hunter would not have wound up in your yard, much less on property for which they did not have permission to hunt. What you should have done was contacted your local sheriff's office which could have also given you the number for or notified the nearest ODNR officer to check your complaint. Its also a good guess that you may have found the vehicle these hunters may have been driving parked nearby. If it had been me, I would have made the phone calls, and also looked for vehicles to obtain license tag numbers. Remember, you have the right to inform hunters that they are breaking the law and that you will notify authorities if they remain on your property. Now if the hunters were not on your property , there isnt an awful lot you can do if they are hunting legally and safely. If shots were fired toward your home creating an unsafe situation, by all means turn them in!

So what is the law on hunting near houses? I went outside and looked up to see a two hunters in the field next to our house! Not like I could see the orange of his vest but even how he was holding his gun! I don't feel safe in my own home! I am not the only house, there was houses or a well used road in all directions! Don't get me wrong I am all for hunting but there is a place to do it; and near my house is not one of them!

The sentence should have read: Schools are not out merely for children to hunt.
