PSC Suggests Water Rate Cut Instead of Increase
West Virginia-American Water has designs on a hike of more than 12%, but the state Public Service Commission had a different idea.

CHARLESTON, W.Va. (AP) - The state Public Service Commission's
staff and Consumer Advocate Division say West Virginia-American
Water's rate should be cut instead of raised.
The company is seeking a 12.37 percent rate hike that would
increase residential customers' monthly water bill by an average of
$5.39.
West Virginia American Water says the requested increase would
raise an additional $14.76 million in annual revenue.
PSC staff recommend reducing the company's annual revenue by
about $4.9 million. The Consumer Advocate Division proposes cutting
annual revenue by $3.1 million.
West Virginia-American Water President Wayne Morgan said Tuesday
that such cuts would hurt the company's ability to maintain
adequate service and discourage investment in infrastructure and
expansion.
