MORGANTOWN, W.Va. (AP) - A former West Virginia University football player who was dismissed from the team for stealing a credit card will serve two years probation.

The Dominion Post reported Tuesday that Monongalia County Circuit Court Judge Robert Stone sentenced 21-year-old Charles Pugh on Monday. A telephone message left Tuesday with the judge's office wasn't immediately returned.

Stone suspended a one- to 10-year prison term but required Pugh to finish probation, college and 75 hours of community service.

Pugh, now a senior at Shepherd University, also must pay nearly $3,000 in restitution to his victims.

Pugh pleaded guilty in October to a May 27 shopping spree on the stolen card. He apologized in court for the crime.

Poor Stan, he just dosen't understand, just about all universitys have thugs that sooner or later they will have to deal with. Hey HerdH8ter love the nickname GO MOUNTAINEERS!....

He stole a credit card and a prominent MU running back stole a playstation. There's no difference--both were theft crimes. Coach Snyder has no idea how to keep his players out of trouble either, Stan.

First time offenders normally get off easy. You, me or anybody getting in trouble for the first time would catch a break unless you killed somebody or something major. It's not because he's a football player.

if he wasn't a football player he would have had to spend time in jail.
