(WSAZ) -- Late Thursday night, police in several counties are reporting damp roads have turned icy as temperatures have dropped below freezing. Road crews are out salting.

To compound the issue, thick frost and fog are forming and since both are sources of moisture, the chances for black ice are heightened.

What makes this especially problematic is that many roads are dry, leading to a false sense of security. If you see dampness on a road overnight through mid morning Friday, chances are good it is ice. After all, the temperature will be dropping as low as 18 by dawn.

Salt trucks are out at 11 pm in Lincoln County WW (among other areas) where dispatcher Siders told me, “roads are a mess and visibility is nil."

Maybe if the money spent on Gov. Joe's inaugural ball had been spent on road salt we could have got to work easier this morning.
