Another community in our area could use some extra money. That's why today the people who live on Alum Creek came out for the annual pig roast, car show and basketball tournament. But if it weren’t for the annual event, the community would not be where it is today.
You’ll find all kinds of things at the Alum Creek Car Show, like a not so average Lincoln Town Car.
It might be one of the things that bring people out to the annual Lions Club event, but it's not what keeps them here.
“Alum creek is a great community,” said Valerie Smith, an Alum Creek resident. “The people are super friendly, and it’s a good place to raise children.”
But there's no city government. So if people want something to happen, they've learned they have to make it happen.
The lions club has been a backbone and Dale Pauley thinks other communities should toss around the idea. He's seen that his community without local government can still be a town.
“Yes it can,” said Pauley. “I think we're living proof of that.”
The Alum Creek Lions Club hopes to raise about $3,000 dollars. Some of the money will go to help buy eyeglasses for kids and adults, hearing aids, and scholarships for college.
