Wyoming County Mine Lays Off 100
The jobs are being cut at the Pinnacle Complex, which is run by
Pinnacle Mining Company, a subsidiary of Cliffs Natural Resources
Incorporated.

PINEVILLE, W.Va. (AP) - About 100 employees at a Wyoming County
coal mine will be laid off Monday.
The jobs are being cut at the Pinnacle Complex, which is run by
Pinnacle Mining Company, a subsidiary of Cliffs Natural Resources
Incorporated. Mine managers met Saturday with local leaders of the
United Mine Workers of America to notify them of the layoffs.
Pinnacle operates two mines near Pineville. The mines produce
matallurgical coal for the steel industry. Donald Gallagher,
president of Cliffs North American business unit, says an economic
downturn has reduced the demand for coal used in steel production.
The complex will continue production at a reduced level with
about 500 employees.
