Change of Venue for Murder Suspect in Putnam County?

By: Scott Saxton
Updated: Tue 4:01 PM, Aug 15, 2006

Two-year-old Logan Goodall died while in the care of Michael Merrifield in the summer of 2005. An autopsy found the boy suffered severe physical and sexual abuse.

Michael Merrifield pleaded not guilty Tuesday to four charges, including first degree murder and sexual assault. Merrifield is set to go on trial in January.

Logan's mother, Pepper Eren, accepted a plea agreement in July in this case. Prosecutors dropped the murder charge in exchange for a guilty plea to child neglect charges. Eren will be sentenced in September.

Late Tuesday afternoon, a representative for David Moye, Merrifield's attorney, told WSAZ they will file a motion to move the trial out of Putnam County. The case has received significant coverage in the local media since Goodall died in 2005.
