HUNTINGTON, W.Va. (WSAZ) - Huntington Police have released the name of the man who was found dead on a street in the city Monday morning.
The body of John Wesley Walker was found at 11th Street and the 5½ Alley on the steps of Trinity Episcopal Church. Investigators say Walker had cuts and there was blood, but police believe that to be consistent with falling down the steps. Walker's clothes were also loosened, but police don't suspect foul play.
Walker was 37 years old and lived on Huntington's west end.
The discovery was made shortly before 7am.
Police closed 11th Street between 5th & 6th Ave for a time to proceed with the investigation.

I didn't get to see the obituaries on this man. I went to grade school with a John Walker (Lavalette Elem.) The John I knew would have been 41 this past year too. Could someone tell me if this the same person. I was thinking of John a week before this happened, but the artical said he was 37 and I knew it wasn't the same person. Then the radio said 41 and my mother told me his mother and step father were living in South Point. When we were in the 4th or 5th grade John and his family moved to South Point. If this is the John I knew I am heart sick. I think of him often wondering what he is doing. After he moved he would call me on occation and we would talk for hours. Somewhere around 9th grade or so I didn't here from him any more. My mom picked him up and took us to the mall when we were 13 and I saw him for 10 min. or so when I was 19. This John didn't have a car and was hitching rides from people. Guess I have gone on long enough with my story. If this is my John please blog back.
Prayers are being lifted up for the family of this man. May God help them get thru this trying time.
Just a quick note to thank everyone that attended John Walker's funeral yesterday. It meant a lot to his mother. Contrary to what someone wrote, his mother did not abandon him, it was his choice. Yes, because of a job transfer, his mother and I did move to Texas in 1988, but John visited us there, he also visited us when we moved back to Ohio 13 years ago and we also visited him in Huntington, but for reasons we don't know, or understand, several years ago he decided not to contact his mom anymore. I can tell you this, there wasn't a day go by that she didn't worry and wonder what had happened to him. But this is what makes his funeral yesterday so special, to see so many of his friends there. Friends that despite what was going on in his life, loved and cared for him. It meant so much to her to know he wasn't alone. So thanks again to all of you that knew him and loved him, we will all miss him.
