Hospital Corporation of America announced plans weeks ago to shut down Putnam General by August 29th. HCA blamed negative attention from lawsuits for decreasing revenue.
Charleston Area Medical Center came to an agreement to buy the property from HCA. However, an HCA spokesperson said the company would not alter its plans for a shutdown to buy time for CAMC to get approval. A group of citizens got an injuction from a judge to stop the shutdown until a hearing scheduled for this week.
HCA came to an agreement this week to keep the hospital open while CAMC goes through the approval process. The injunction hearing has been postponed.
About 350 people work at Putnam General Hospital.
