HUNTINGTON, W.Va. (WSAZ) -- Living your best life doesn't just mean diet and exercise.
Even Oprah Winfrey hit on it -- body, mind and spirit work together for a balanced lifestyle. A local woman shares how being grounded in a higher power gives her a better sense of well-being than anything else.
Even at the age of 72, Jeanne Rogers is a picture of healthy living. When she's not doing volunteer work, you can often find her in the gym.
“I go three days a week and do Nautilus,” she said.
But Jeanne will tell you those workouts and even her healthy diet don't get all of the credit. Her deep sense of spirituality rounds out her healthy living.
“I wake up grateful that I’m able to get up and then I pray thanking God that I’m as healthy as I am,” she said.
“People with a positive spirituality have a way of dealing with sickness and challenges. Those who don’t have it tend to spiral,” said David Johnson, the chaplain at Cabell Huntington Hospital.
Prior to that, he was a longtime church pastor. He'll tell you the power of faith can promote health and quick recovery in sickness.
“It’s not an insurance policy that you won’t get sick, but it will help you recover more quickly and gain strength if you do,” Johnson said.
A healthy combination of many things can jumpstart a brighter new outlook on life and health. If losing weight is at the top of your list, we have a way you can do it with the help of a plenty of healthy choices. It's called ‘Healthy Tri-State’ and is a partnership between WSAZ, myZ and Cabell Huntington Hospital.
We're currently accepting applications for our ‘Biggest Loser’ half-hour show. You can learn all about it by starting here at WSAZ.com, click on the ‘Life’ tab and go down to ‘Healthy Tri-State’. Once on the page, click on the link for 'Biggest Loser' and you'll find all of the details and an entry form.
You'll have to be willing to commit to a program of healthy eating and exercise, but you'll get free help from doctors, dietitians and fitness experts.
So, enter now -- the deadline is fast approaching. Good Luck!

Mrs. Rogers; Thank you for having stepped out and talking about some spirutal things.I used to be a christian for a long time and was raised that way. Then while attending a different church I got hurt by alot of the members at that church. Its been seveeral years since I have gotten back spiritually like I used to be. The only difference now is that I am severely overweight and I'm dying of lung problems.I do have a family now and don't want my stepson growing up not knowing Jesus.TONIGHT ,ME AND MY WIFE HAVE DECIDED THAT WE ARE GIVING OUR LIFE BACK TO GOD AND LET HIM HANDLE WHATEVER FATE HE HAS INSTORE FOR US.I hope that he will bless my stepson, who is autistic, bipolar and ADHD and has some anger problems.WILL YOU PRAY FOR US THREE AND AND FOR THE PREACHER WHO SUPOSED TO BE HERE IN THE MORNING.THANK YOU FOR YOUR COMMENT AND FOR YOUR PRAYERS
