CHARLESTON, W.Va. (WSAZ) -- A man from Charleston admitted to scamming the federal government out of a couple thousand dollars as part of a scheme involving Hurricane Katrina.
Marcus Boyd, 25 from Charleston, filed a false claim with the Federal Emergency Management Agency for disaster relief assistance from Hurricane Katrina. Boyd got a $2,000 check from the government, after claiming that he lost his home and job in the hurricane in 2005. He identified himself as Marcus Strozier.
After federal officials flagged the claim in an audit, Boyd claimed he was the victim of identity theft and filed a false police report.
Boyd could be sentenced to up to five years in prison this April and forced to pay a fine as much as a quarter million dollars.

Luther, let me appoligize for my comments. I also get a check each week. I also work 60 hours a week to earn that check. Just what is the nature of your disability? Maybe I can help you out.
To Posted by: annoymous on Jan 8, 2009 at 08:12 PM First off, I do feel sorry for him, however I do not work. If I did, I would be able to help him out more. I get a check, so I feel it's not my responsibility. Again, he is a survivor and he did what was neccesary to make ends meet, I can't fault him for that. I've sold a few of my stamps from time to time, have even sold some of the cheese that they ration to us. It's just a means of survival, and shouldn't be criticized until you've walked in our boots. I can defend the actions of this guy because he's a friend. Up until a few months ago we played poker every Friday night together, in which we got to be close friends, shared many a good time times talking. Good luck Marcus, I'm pulling for you buddy, I hope this whole thing is dropped.
Sounds like the Legal system is the true master of fraud and extortion.....lol
