CHARLESTON, W.Va. (AP) - A 25-year-old Charleston man has pleaded guilty to falsely obtaining $2,000 by claiming to be a victim of Hurricane Katrina and then claiming identity theft to try to cover up his crime.

Marcus L. Boyd pleaded guilty Thursday in U.S. District Court in Charleston to filing a false claim with the Federal Emergency Management Agency.

The U.S. Attorney's Office says Boyd admitted to using a fictitious name when claiming he lost his house and his job in New Orleans on Aug. 29, 2005.

His deceit was uncovered during an audit.

After FEMA sought repayment, Boyd filed a false police report claiming that his identity had been stolen.

He faces up to five years in prison, restitution and a $250,000 fine during sentencing, which is set for April 9.

I agree with Charlie, at least it wasn't a plea deal and he did plead guilty. I think he still needs to do years in prison and pay a huge fine, but perhaps not the maximum since he did admit up to his crimes. Too often, so the judge and prosecutor can go home early, we see the plea bargins. So, not the maximum sentence when he's sentenced. But, he's still a criminal.

At least this young man took responsibility for himself & admitted his wrong doings. President Bush will not & does not. Nor does any of his cronies. They are responsible for many lives lost this guy just took a small amount of money . I guess he should have been on wall street then they would have bailed him out .
