CHARLESTON, W.Va. (AP) - Kanawha County Circuit Judge Charles King is back on the bench, drawing both a salary and pension in a move that has spurred calls for changes to state law.
King declined to discuss his decision.
King ran unopposed in last year's election, ensuring another term. But in mid-October, he announced his resignation, enabling him to start receiving his pension.
By rescinding his resignation, he's now able to collect his full salary and continue getting his pension - possibly earning at least $188,000 a year.
Cabell County Circuit Court Judge Alfred Ferguson also took early retirement in October and returned to the bench in January.
Ferguson ran unopposed in the November General Election.
Gov. Joe Manchin said last year his first order of business will be to seek legislation preventing other state employees from doing the same thing. Any change in the law will not affect King.

It would be fine if he had resigned in time for someone to run against him. This would have given voters (taxpayers) an opportunity to decide on who we wanted. He purposely planned this so there wasn't time for another candidate. It may be legal, but it's not ethical. For what it's worth, he's lost my respect.
Great another embarrassing moment for West Virginia. Ferguson and King both need to stay retired. Both are worthless judges anyway. No other state or county employee is allowed to double dip.
Judges have very little in the way of breaks in their careers , from the endless parade of human debris that come before them .Judges make a fraction of the income that the lawyers who practice in their courts do .I wouldnt be so quick to rag on this man unless you walked a mile in his shoes .Often Judges suffer from depression ,divorce and alcoholism . I watched Judge King over the years and he looks like a fine man who pulled his time and is due .
