WEST CHESTER, Ohio (WSAZ) -- AK Steel has announced layoffs for an unspecified number of its salaried workforce because of the continued decreased demand for its steel products.
According to a news release on the company's Web site, the layoffs will likely affect salaried employees in all of the company's plants and offices.
While the company says it hopes the layoffs are temporary, a continuation of the economic downturn could result in some or all of the layoffs becoming permanent job reductions.
Last month, AK announced an across-the-board pay cut for its salaried employees and other cost-cutting measures, including temporary incentives for early retirements.
