CHARLESTON, W.Va. (AP) - West Virginia residents saw utility bills increase by an average of 15.6 percent in 2008.

A study released Wednesday by the Public Service Commission's Consumer Advocate Division says the statewide average cost for telephone, gas, electricity and water in January 2008 was $305.49, compared to $264.26 in January 2007.

The study compared utility rates in 17 cities, based on a residential customer's average monthly usage of 13 cubic feet of natural gas, 600 kilowatt hours of electricity, 4,500 gallons of water and a single flat-rate telephone line.

The average rates ranged from $278.24 in Morgantown to $326.35 in Hinton.

Like I was saying they want to make it all,if they think they can push (squeeze)for another cent they will do so. Nothing will get better until inflation is put into check along with the money hungry corporations. We are definitely in need for tougher regulations on these monster corporations.

You think that's bad? Try having a electric bill go up OVER $100.00 by it's self. $310.00 a month! Its crazy what people have to pay to be able to survive. God help the older citizens who are on a fixed income..... there is no way they will be able to make it! I hope the utility companies are happy that they are lining their pockets. I wish the government would step in and put a freeze on the "rate hikes" we the customer get stuck with!!

THIS SHOULD BE INVESTIGATED! I have my natural gas furnace turned down to 60 and I still have a $300 gas bill! And trust me, you cannot get anyone to explain why or help you in any way. What does the PSC expect people to do. I have to decide what to pay now just to keep my utilities on. WHAT A SHAME!!!!!!!!!
