KNOXVILLE, Tenn. (AP) - The Tennessee Valley Authority directors have named the former chairman of the Republican National Committee as their new chairman.
Director Mike Duncan of Inez, Kentucky was elected Thursday by a 4-3 vote to succeed Bill Sansom of Knoxville when his two-year termed ends May 18.
Director Dennis Bottorff of Nashville urged the board to delay the vote, saying he worried that Duncan would be a partisan "lightning rod" with a Democratic administration in Washington, D.C.
Duncan, who lives outside the TVA region, said "I am more than a partisan animal" and said he looks forward to leading the nation's largest public utility.

What money can do.
Thank you, Mike Duncan, for doing an outstanding job as the RNC chairman, raising more money than ever before for the party. Thank you for representing Inez, and Ky. in such an admirable way.
