CLEARWATER, Fla. (WSAZ) -- When Nick Schuyler was pulled from the Gulf of Mexico after the boat he was on overturned, the first person he saw was a member of the Coast Guard from Huntington.

25-year-old Petty Officer David Earles was that rescue swimmer who jumped from a Guard helicopter into the water.

The boat was owned by Oakland Raiders linebacker Marquis Cooper and was occupied by free-agent NFL defensive lineman Corey Smith, former South Florida player William Bleakley.

Earles is stationed on the Coast Guard Cutter Tornado.

This was his first rescue mission since he joined the Coast Guard in 2007.

The overturned boat belonged to Oakland Raiders linebacker Marquis Cooper.

Cooper, along with NFL Player Corey Smith, Former South Florida player Williams Bleakely and Schuyler were on a fishing trip in Gulf of Mexico over the weekend when a storm moved in and swamped their boat.

Schuyler is the only survivor. He was rescued Monday clinging to the overturned boat.
