ASHLAND, Ky. (WSAZ) – Ground was broken Thursday for Ashland’s new police station.

It’s being built on 17th Street across the street from the city building.

Construction on the nearly $4 million building is expected to be completed later this year.

This is the first time in the department’s 150 year history, it'll have its own building.

Currently the Ashland Police Department shares 4 floors of the city building with other city departments.

While the underappreciated state workers(social workers, in particular) without the guns and the sticks and the cuffs sacrifice their health and well-being every single day by being forced to work in buildings that contain mold or bats. Where's their new building? ~Travis~

In these hard Bush/Cheney caused economic times we all have to tighten our belts. But one thing we can't ignore is our law enforcement. We are going to need them now more than ever. Its good to see that the citizens of Ashland recongize this.
