LAWRENCE COUNTY, Ohio (WSAZ) -- Chatham Steel Corp. cut the ribbon Tuesday on a new facility in the the Point Industrial Park in South Point, bringing with it 40 new jobs.
At 96 years old, Chatham Steel is one of the oldest metal service centers in the industry, servicing more than 2,500 customers in the Southeast.
The project in South Point is a nearly $3.2 million investment.
The company will rely on trucks for transport, but hopes to incorporate both water and eventually rail service.
Lawrence County is getting the money to help Chatham Steel Company expand into Ohio.
It will be used to improve infrastructure near the Point Industrial Park in South Point. Projects will include building a new access road and purchasing rail equipment.
The Ohio Department of Development says it's a $3.2 million project.
40 jobs are expected to be created. 21 of those will be for people with low to moderate income.
Chatham Steel Company manufactures machined metal components. It is a subsidiary of Reliance Steel and Aluminum.
