FLATWOODS, Ky. (WSAZ) -- Green beer, parties, parades and panties? For six years now, 92.7 The Planet puts on quite a spin on St. Patrick's Day.
The rules are simple. You bring in a pair of panties, you get a free t-shirt.
Debra Sweeney heard about St. Panty's Day on the radio, and she wasn't about to let her nerves get in the way of a free t-shirt.
"I have to give a big pair of underwear away," Sweeney said. "Now, if they were little tiny ones i might not have been so nervous."
"It's just amazing what people will do for a t-shirt," 92.7's Nate Gilcher said. "it really is."
Nate Gilcher works for The Planet. He has an idea why women would want to give away their panties in public.
"I think it feeds into their wild side a little bit," Gilcher said. "Every girl has that wild side, you know, and trading in those panties that's pretty wild."
Everyone who came out to the panty checkpoint in Flatwoods had a smile to show.
However, 92.7 on-air personality "Reevis" says there has been some backlash.
"We've had a few complaints saying were being disrespectful but i just think its fun," Reeves Kirtner said. "It's a good way to have fun."
So, that leaves us with just one question. What do they do with all those panties?
"Every year we figure out something fun to do with the panties," Kirtner said. "I don't know what we'll do with them this year, but we'll come up with something awesome."
So, while it's not the traditional celebration, the folks involved say they wouldn't have it any other way.
