BOYD COUNTY, Ky. (WSAZ) -- 85% of the inmates in jail in Kentucky have something to do with drug activity.
Now the commonwealth is expanding its inmate drug rehabilitation program to help the men and women kick the habit and live productively once out of jail.
Thursday, Boyd County became the sixteenth county in Kentucky to adopt such a program.
"I got caught stealing out of Wal-Mart. I stole every day to help support my drug habit," Robert DeBord, an inmate in Boyd County told WSAZ.com.
Robert DeBord is one of the newest participants in Westcare Rehabilitation.
"At least they're getting educated and are able to talk about the predicament they're in," Boyd County Jailer Joe Burchett said.
County and state leaders announced Thursday the new program will be offered to inmates who want to succeed after serving their time in jail.
Pike County was the first in the state to implement Westcare and counselors say they are seeing results.
"Our men's program has had tremendous success. THey get back out into the community," Rodney Bentley with Westcare said.
The program follows the Alcoholics Anonymous 12 step plan. They learn to be accountable for their actions.
"When you first come here, they're shy. But then (they) grow out of their shell. It will definitely help us get back in society and give us a chance," DeBord said.
The state pays the bill for this tool to get inmates back on their feet and back in society.
