IRONTON, Ohio (WSAZ) -- It was a great day to go fishing in our region.
Today, hundreds of people around the region came to southeast Ohio to do just that at Lake Vesuvius for the 6th Annual Wheelin' Sportsmen's Fishing Day. The folks are from sixteen nursing centers and group homes in the area.
For many, it was more about the day spent outside than the competition. They spent a few hours on the all-access boardwalk at Lake Vesuvius.
Ogle Jenkins says if you look beneath the surface of Thursday's event, you'll find people who deeply care about taking care of loved ones.
"This is what it's all about. Look at the smiles, less fortunate. Just to see the smiles on these faces. Not about how many you catch, just the thought of being out," Ogle Jenkins said.
That's what it turned out to be for many in attendance.

Great job on your story Andrew. As the Public Affairs Officer for the Forest, we thank you and WSAZ News for coming over to Lawrence County to the Lake Vesuvius event. I'm new to the area but I have learned that WSAZ is a leader in covering community events held on the Forest. Thank you and WSAZ News.
