CHARLESTON, W.Va. (AP) - Marshall and West Virginia universities are interested in continuing their cross-state football rivalry, but both schools want to modify the terms of the annual series.
Marshall Athletic Director Bob Marcum recently contacted WVU AD Ed Pastilong about starting discussions for extending the series beyond 2012.
Marcum said Marshall is interested in rotating the games between Morgantown and Huntington as long as The Thundering Herd gets a home game every other year.
Pastilong said WVU is only interested in an extension that gives the Mountaineers a two-to-one home field advantage.
The football series was resumed in 2006 after Gov. Joe Manchin helped broker a deal the year before.
Manchin said today that he's a fan of the series, but is leaving negotiations up to the schools and believes they will reach a fair agreement.
This year's game will be played on Oct. 17 in Morgantown.

Everyone needs to grow up here. This is not about football at all. It's about economics. The game generates funds that stay right here in this state. As for idiots that would be every one of us that voted for the current leadership we have in the capitol. After all Gov. Manchin did broker the deal. I'm just glad he isn't in charge of my retirement funds. Who in their right mind would taken such a stupid deal. I agree with some of the comments that Marshall should stop whining about playing So. Western PA University aka WVU. After all there are many other shools that have better football programs than WVU. Of course if you want a free degree then go to WVU. Heck you don't even have to attend class. As for ethics they don't even teach that at WVU.
Excuse me James: We did sell out Mac championship game Get your facts straight. Btw the big east is only a good basketball confrence.
To all WVU fans, you take the three best teams from the big east: VA Tech, BC, and Miami and its still difficult to win your conference. BTW I think MU's Squad almost beat you guys in game one, when Marshall had just leaped from 1-AA. I am biased because I'm not for MU or WVU. Marshall needs to play a higher class team than West Virginia anyway.
