It was a surprise shutdown, leaving dozens without work.
Employees at Mauser Corporation in Nitro say they learned Monday morning the manufacturing company was closing effective immediately.
The announcement apparently was made during a staff meeting.
Mauser is known for manufacturing drums that store hazardous materials for companies like Dow and Dupont. In all, 25 people lost their jobs, and workers say today's announcement came as quite a shock.
John Maynard works at the plant. “Maybe a new plant manager could have been upgrades maybe we were getting more machines. We thought it would be something like that. We never dreamed they were going to be shutting us down business was too good."
In January Mauser took over the plant from Russell Stanley.
We've tried to contact the company, but our calls have not been returned.
The union is supposed to meet tomorrow to discuss the shutdown.
