INSTITUTE, W.Va. (AP) -- Bayer CropScience has hired an emergency services director to coordinate emergency responses at a West Virginia chemical plant that was the scene of a fatal explosion last August.
Bayer said Friday that Doug Jones comes to the Institute plant from the company's plant in New Martinsville.
The announcement comes a day after the U.S. Chemical Safety Board said safety lapses contributed to the Aug. 28 explosion that killed two.
Bayer has also been criticized for failing to notify and then keep local emergency services officials informed of developments stemming from the explosion and fire.
Site manager Nick Crosby said Jones' hiring should improve the plant's communication and cooperation with local officials.

Well Joe I'm more alarmed by the railroad moving tank cars of deadly chemicals thru our towns and back yards 24 7. Bhopal here well never say never but not likely that that wasn't hurt by the blast and had a hole been blasted in it it would have simply been incenerated along with all the other chemicals that were incenerated that sad night.

Now if we could just get a qualified director for the Metro 911 center, we'd be in good shape. But King Carper only has so many friends, so the picking is kind of slim.

Can anyone say Bhopal,India? Think that can't happen here ? Wake up people. Chemical plants brew nasty things and don't have to say anything about the "little booboos" they make, until the right person stirs the pot.
