BECKLEY, W.Va. (AP) - National Park Service officials fear a Charleston man who was swept down the New River has drowned.
New River Gorge National River chief ranger Gary Hartley identified the missing man as 31-year-old Jody Jones.
Jones and a friend were in a canoe on the New River Saturday morning when the vessel tipped over, sending both men into the water. The friend was able to get back to the canoe, but Jones was swept downstream by the current.
Rescue crews searched the river Saturday and Sunday, and were scheduled to start again Monday morning.
