The Pink Painter

Two weeks ago, Jason Sansom, a Marshall University student, who first painted the Ritter Park, 12th Street Bridge, pink! He chose the color in honor of breast cancer awareness month in October.

However, after some complaints Jason repainted the bridge, white. Then, Huntington's Mayor, David Felinton, gave him permission to paint a city bridge – the 8th Street Bridge. Now many people in the surrounding neighborhood are upset.

“Its not that he is painting it, he's painting it pink. this is not an appropriate way to raise awareness for your cause.” Whitney Gesner is a nearby neighbor who is not happy with the current paint job. “It’s an upkeep issue that our city absolutely does not need in a time of financial crisis.”

Tommy Romans likes how it looks. “Pink’s pink… get to looking at it, it could be a prettier color... maybe a lavender.”

Jason says he only wants to remind everyone about breast cancer, long after October is over. “I've had nothing but support except for a few people today, but the majority of the feedback has been in support of the pink bridge.”

Jason plans on continuing his work this coming Sunday, he is asking for volunteers to help him out.
