HUNTINGTON, W.Va. (WSAZ) -- For many people, there's nothing quite like the taste of fresh vegetables right out of the garden.
In the near future, students at Enslow Middle School will know firsthand what it's like to grow their own food. WSAZ.com's Dave Benton takes us to their community garden where students are getting a lesson in agriculture and responsibility.
Tomatoes, cucumbers, peppers and squash are among the crops students started in hydroponic float beds.
"It gets the seeds started from scratch," said Justin Berry, who teaches Enslow Middle students how to grow their own food in the community garden.
Student Eric Farley said, "It helped me learn even if you live in the city you can grow food."
Berry said, "I just want to teach them what I learned on the farm, and it teaches them responsibility."
He added that the community garden is open for anyone to come pitch in and help. And, of course, the kids are willing to share the food.
