HUNTINGTON, W.Va. (WSAZ) -- People hit hard by storms and flooding this last week in parts of eastern Kentucky are being asked to speak up, even though no government aid is currently available.

The Kentucky Division of Emergency Management is encouraging anyone who received damage to their homes or property to report it to their county emergency director.

Officials want to be aware of the impact the storms had on the area and see if help should be made available.

The people responsible will not stand up and do anything. I talked to numerous people on Friday, (Boyd County Emergency Management, Red Cross and Boyd County) the one that stuck was my conversation with Mathew Atkins for Boyd County when he said "Boyd County does not have the funds to give handouts to people, if you help one person you have to help them all". Mr. Atkins was speaking about the needed stormwater drainage problems here along Hatchery Rd. in Boyd County Kentucky. I just bought my home here two months ago and I experienced the problems first hand Friday morning June 12, 2009 during a thunderstorm at 4 AM. I was awakened by neighbors warning us of the flooding around our home and into our vehicles along Hatchery Rd.. I have never experienced any flooding in the past and it scared the heck out of me. Water got up about 2-3 feet all around my home and about 5-6 inches inside my home. I had mud issues inside my home from the flooding. I lost carpeting and items inside.

I agree completely DSmith. I have a neighbor who had water completely running in the back and out the front, destroying the home and everything in it ONLY to be given a couple thousand dollars. The home is gone and what little help they received, will do little to nothing to assist them with a new one. FEMA will do nothing, and I mean nothing to the outside of your home. No driveway, no landscape, no gravel, BUT it will give you about 1/25 of what your home is worth. WHY can't they do like they did before and offer temporary trailer housing with the option to purchase? This way, they would get some of their money back! Please, get the government in order and assist these people the way they need to be. If we could get what they are sending to other countries, we would be okay!!!
