FRANKFORT, Ky. (WSAZ) -- The debate has gone on for years: should a state famous for horse racing open the gates for more?
It's a question that could be settled soon. Kentucky Governor Steve Beshear has called for a special session to deal with video slot machine issue.
On Monday, the Kentucky General Assembly will go into special session to consider whether to allow video slot machines at the state's horse racing tracks.
It's part of the governor's plan to deal with an estimated $1 billion budget shortfall.

Whether or not slots and casinos are added to Kentucky gaming, either way will still have adverse effects. As regards to crime, more crime because of casinos, more crime if not. More street crimes with casinos (i.e. pickpockets, robberies, etc.) may not be as bad as crimes that come with abandonment (i.e. drug houses, crack head children, etc.)

Well Kp, I know they never brought US any water & my husband is an amputee, I never said they did not give it out, but they red flagged our home ( so they said) but we ended up having to go get our own water, and for the record im not a holy roller, you got something against christians? I just said why spend all this money on a slot machine, when it could buy these kids some clothes,or food? you know the ones whom lost everything, and our Gov could not care less, and maybe if our county would actually clean a creek and fix these roads, people would not complain, nothing was done, nor will it be. money coming in is a good thing, but do you honestly think its going to go into your pockets?...lolol NOT, I have nothing against slot machines and have played them from time to time, but right now when you say our community needs to pull together, you are right, but help those whom need it, I don't need anything God provided a way for us, there are others alot worse off than me.

Well said KP.One study shows 500 mill is being wagered by Kentuckians at Indiania casinos. Now we have 2 choices here continue to bury our heads in the sand and fight each other(and thats just what the owners of the Indiana and WV casinos want us to do) or we can realize that the slot machines that surround our state are here to stay.We should offer the slots to those who want to play them and all you do gooders who dont approve well guess what noone is going to force you to go.tO EACH IS OWN I consider gambeling foolish but if people are going to do it doesnt it make common sense to keep the money here in Kentucky?
