KANAWHA COUNTY, W.Va. (WSAZ) -- Instead of heading off to MDA camp, kids are staying home this summer. The Muscular Dystrophy Association canceled camp because of the serious health threats to their campers from Swine Flu.
Those who planned to attend camp in Ripley found out Friday that they can't go this year.
One of those disappointed campers is Justin Stewart. He says he is mad that he has to miss out on all the fun. The camp gives him a chance to do things he can't do every day like ride a horse or motorcycle.
The MDA says 11 confirmed cases and 6 possible cases of the Swine Flu were reported at some of the camps across the country. Organizers decided to cancel the rest of the camps for summer as a precaution.
Justin's dad says he understands. Many of the kids who attend the camp already have a weak immune or respiratory system.
So that puts them at a higher risk of the virus.
About 2,500 kids across the nation will miss out on the camp this year.

this is directed to Ang-how do you take precautions for this type of thing? if you knew anything about this case you would know that there is a 7 day incubation period for it. therefore, you have no way of determining who is a carrier. what does that do, put everyone at risk. when you are dealing with someone so serious, you can not take any chances. these children need to be safe. i'm sure that is the real reason the association canceled the camp. if you aren't there to protect the child, why are you there?
Are all camps at Cedar Lakes cancelled?
and they are still having the 4th of july parade there it dont make no sence at all. oh where did the money go that was for the kids to go to camp?
