SCIOTO COUNTY, Ohio (WSAZ) -- A government "Go Green" program has been a big success at Shawnee State Park where the slogan "Reduce, Reuse and Recycle" is evident.
This spring, Shawnee joined 30 other Ohio state parks in the Carry In- Carry Out program. The park removed all of the trash cans and centrally located the dumpsters -- telling visitors that everything they carry in has to be carried out.
Park managers said in its first few months, the program has worked almost perfectly. Ohio state park officials expect to save more than $50,000 annually in personnel and waste disposal.
Twenty states around the country have taken trash cans out of their state parks. And national park folks say, with states cutting funding, more Carry In-Carry Out programs are on the way.

Ok,, I"m camping, invite family for dinner, and smores,, which makes garbage, am I supposed to put the garbage in my tent or camper, or just leave it outside for the coons and skunks and other critters to munch on? Either choice makes no sense to me. Give us a trash can with a lid on it! Better yet, give us a reclying bin and a trash can!

if you take the trashcans out i'll have no problem leaving my trash there

This should help keep the parks cleaner, animals won't be dragging garbage out of the cans. Humans need to clean up after themselves.
