HUNTINGTON, W.Va. (WSAZ) -- When it comes to donating blood, most people give from the heart and that was definitely the case at WSAZ’s Donorama 2009 on Thursday.
Kerry Tutt, a Donorama regular, has given blood more than 100 times.
“My father died of cancer, so this is a way for me to give back,” Tutt said.
The local Red Cross folks say the summertime is a key time when it comes to a real need for blood.
“There are more accidents and the students are not in school to give blood, said Susie Wade.
Wade counts on people like Garry Woody, a multi-gallon giver.
The Red Cross says a donor can give every 56 days. Woody says he gives every 56 days.
“To save lives, people need operations. I had a friend with cancer, without blood he would have perished,” Woody said.
Dozens of people showed up for WSAZ’s Donorama 2009, which took place in both Huntington and Charleston.

blood shortage is low, so please give blood, someday you might need some, or know someone that will need some blood products. As a non profit organization, the red cross is making money and trying to cut wages for its employees. they have worked without a contract since middle of April, we are under paid as it is, but now they want to make cuts to hurt the hard working people that bring the blood to our customers, please let everyone know how red Cross treats thier employees and let your congressmen know how you feel

I've been donating blood for many years. In fact, I donated my 100th pint in May.
