ASHLAND, Ky. (WSAZ) -- As the region’s biggest summer festival kicks off in Ashland there are a few things you should know before you go to Summer Motion.
One of the biggest changes is the festival’s location- it had to be moved to Central Park because of construction along the river front.
The concert venue set up is similar to the river set up- with VIP’s in the front, and for the general public there is a lawn for folding chairs and blankets.
Wednesday Night’s headliner, country music star Jake Owen, says he is ready to hit the new Central Park Stage.
“We want first timers to say wow.. that was good, I’m coming back,” Owen said.
Summer Motion President Chuck Charles says the new location provides easier access.
“You don’t have to funnel in through that flood wall, there is 360 degree access to the park,” Charles said.
When it comes to parking, the rule of thumb is if you came here before, park where you parked before, and instead of walking to the river you walk to the park.
Be sure to avoid private lots and if you see legal street parking grab it.
Also, be aware of pedestrians. Police say they are expecting a high number of people walking on downtown Ashland streets.
“The sidewalks are narrower than in the business district, and pedestrians will be in packs, so drivers need to be aware,” said Major Todd Kelley with the Ashland Police Department.
