UPDATE: 7/7 @ 12:50pm
IRONTON, Ohio (WSAZ) -- Ironton Water Officials say they have investigated a woman’s claim that she found a worm in her drinking water.
Ironton Water Department Superintendent Mark White tells WSAZ.com that tests show it is "highly unlikely" that the worm came from the city’s water supply.
Amy Darby told WSAZ.com on Sunday that the worm came out of her kitchen faucet Friday morning.
White says that a water department technician and a representative with the Lawrence County Health department went to Darby’s house to conduct tests on her water. He says those tests showed that the chlorine level significantly exceeded state standards. He says the standard is .2. Her water tested at .97 and the tests at neighboring residences and the water plant were between 1.09-1.18.
White say resutts that high make it highly unlikely that a worm could live in the water.
White believes the worm is a horsehair worm. He also says Ironton is a “closed” water system, which would prevent a worm from entering the system.
White has also contacted the Ohio EPA about the alleged incident.
ORIGINAL STORY
IRONTON, Ohio (WSAZ) -- It's not what Amy Darby expected when she woke up Friday morning. She thought it was a string or a blade of grass--but then she noticed it start moving.
"It looks like a piece of grass that's alive," Darby said outside her place of work Friday.
Darby claims at 4:30 a.m., a brown worm came out of her kitchen faucet. She called the city's water department. Darby said she was referred to the health department. She says there was no answer at the health department.
WSAZ.com called the Lawrence County Health Department and the Ironton City Water Works office Saturday. No one answered.
"It's beyond creepy," Darby said. "It looks like a tapeworm that would be inside of a human. And this is coming out of my tap water at home."

I have just seen what i thought was a hair curled up in my shower, but it was writhing. What the heck is it, did it come from me or the water system? Can anybody advise me?
