PIKE COUNTY, Ky. (WSAZ) -- The Pike County Domestic Violence Shelter is temporarily closed due to funding problems.
Directors say donations and grants they usually receive did not come through this year, so they were forced to lay off employees and close the housing unit until they can get more funds.
That meant 25 victims had to go to another location.
Donna Casey says it typically takes $14,000 per month to operate, but this month, she says private donations and grant funds are down.
“People don't have the money to give us like they did in past years. Some grants we had in the past, they weren't giving as much money,” Donna Casey said.
The center hopes to re-open at the end of the month.
Casey says they should find out on Monday if they get a new state grant.
They are also expecting to receive money from the fiscal court later this month.
