CLENDENIN, W.Va. (WSAZ) -- Kenneth Paine was elected to Clendenin town council on June 9, 2009.
He says once the swearing-in ceremony rolled around, no one told him.
Paine also says that he was never informed about council meetings that followed.
When he tried to go to a meeting on Monday July 13, mayor Bob Ore wouldn't let him take his seat at the table because he hadn't been officially sworn-in.
Clendenin Mayor Bob Ore says he won't comment on whether or not Paine was told about the swearing-in.
Ore says he is just following the rules put in place. A council member must be sworn-in 20 days after the vote canvassing. In this case, that didn't happen.
Ore says they are working with their lawyers to see what they can do next and what to do with the council seat.
Paine says the night of the council meeting there were some people in the crowd that cheered in support of him.
Paine has previously served as Clendenin's mayor. He also has served six non-consecutive terms on council.
Ore says he is following the law and working with lawyers to sort out the situation.

I live in Clendenin and love the town. Hate the constant problems, but it seems to me like any town has lots of problems, but do people call the news every single time there are problems???....Not elsewhere, but certain people from Clendenin have been calling the news an awful lot or Clendenin wouldn't even be in the news. SOMEONE has to call!!!!!! It's that simple. So the people who are calling are the ones making the town look bad.......and they are probably RESIDENTS of the town!!!! So in essence residents of the town are the ones making it look bad. LAY THE PHONE DOWN! Work it out! Like every other town........ Clendenin is being made to look like a horrible place to live and it's not. I like it and will live here till the day I day. Its a great place to raise kids and there are things to do....fishing, swimming, 4-wheeler riding, things put on by the town (with donations and town funds). LOVE MY CLENDENIN!!!!!!!

This is definitely not cool. The mayor needs to get over himself. This guy was elected by the people and the mayor has no say in that.

Without a doubt, the town of Clendenin should be dissolved. There is absolutely nothing there and there is no need to be an incorporated area, and waste money paying council members, mayor, police, etc. Its become an absolute joke.
