UPDATE: Arrest Made in Death of NC Woman Found in Portsmouth

PORTSMOUTH, Ohio (WSAZ—The Scioto County man charged in connection with the death of Nicole Alloway was in court Monday morning.

On Friday, Scioto County Sheriff Deputies arrested Richard Howard of McDermott, Ohio.

Howard is charged with gross abuse of a corpse, tampering with evidence, and selling drugs.

Investigators believe he and Alloway were in his car on State Route 73 when she started using drugs and died.

Deputies believe Howard dumped her body in a rocky area near Otway. A couple found her remains on July 12.

Alloway was last seen at a grocery store in Portsmouth on June 10.

During Monday’s video arraignment in Portsmouth Municipal Court, a judge set Howard’ bond was set at $105,000.

His preliminary hearing set for Friday.

PORTSMOUTH, Ohio (WSAZ) -- Scioto County detectives arrested a man Friday in connection with the disposal of the body of a woman missing from North Carolina.

Sheriff Marty Donini said Richard E. Howard, 32, has been charged with three felonies in the death of Nicole Alloway. The release from the sheriff's department states that detectives believe Alloway and Howard were traveling on State Route 73 recently while abusing drugs and Alloway died in the vehicle. Detectives say Howard disposed of Alloway's body in a rock embedded area off of Route 73 in Otway.

Howard faces one count of Gross Abuse of a Corpse, Tampering with Evidence and Trafficking in Drugs, which are all felonies. Prosecutors will also present other death related charges to a grand jury once final forensics reports are received. Sheriff Donini says the cause of death for Alloway is still not known.

Howard's last known address was McDermott, Ohio. He is being held on $25,000 bond and will be in court this Monday.

PORTSMOUTH, Ohio (WSAZ) -- Scioto County Sheriff Marty Donini confirms that human remains found earlier this month near Otway, Ohio are those of Nichole Alloway of Spring Hope, North Carolina. Alloway was reported missing to the Portsmouth Police Department on June 10, 2009.

Investigators verified Alloway's identity through dental records. Her body was found in the Otway area on July 12th.

According to Sheriff Donini, detectives from his office received notification from the Montgomery County Forensic center that the remains located in Otway, Ohio, have been identified as Nicole A. Alloway of Springhope North Carolina. Alloway was 19 years old.

Family members in North Carolina have been notified.
