UPDATE 2/5/13 @ 6 p.m.
WILLIAMSON, W.Va. (WSAZ) -- The shelves are full in a small evidence room in the basement of the Mingo County Courthouse.

On those shelves are pills, cash, jewelry and guns -- all of it seized during a countywide drug raid last Friday.

"All of these are from out of state,"Mingo County Sheriff Eugene Crum said. "We're seeing a lot of doctor shopping in Tennessee and Georgia."

Friday's sweep resulted in more than 50 indictments and more than $300,000 in cash and property confiscated.

The task force commander is Dave Rockel. He's also known to residents of Williamson, W.Va., as the city's police chief. He says this sweep is just the beginning of a new, dedicated effort to get drugs off the street.

"'We're planning on expanding," Rockel said. "I believe no one should live in fear because of this drug problems. We're wanting to correct the problem. We really do."

UPDATE 2/1/13 @ 11:45 a.m.
WILLIAMSON, W.Va.(WSAZ) -- Doors kicked in and guns drawn, this was the wake up call a local Sheriff's Office delivered to those indicted on drug charges.

Before dawn Friday morning, the Mingo County Sheriff's Department assembled members of “Operation Zero Tolerance,” and began rounding up more than 50 individuals on felony drug indictments.

Prosecuting Attorney Michael Sparks says 52 people were indicted earlier this week on felony drug charges as part of “Operation Zero Tolerance.”

Most of the charges are for selling and dealing crack cocaine, prescription drugs and heroin.

Drug Task Force Commander C. D. Rockel says Friday’s arrests have been a long time coming.

"It's definitely going to make a dent in the activity in our county. With every one we take off the street that's one less we have to fool with so that means the crime rate will go down in some areas," said Rockel.

During today's indictment sweep, a local sign shop was raided and a person authorities called a “major supplier of drugs” was arrested.

“It’s like a pharmacy here," according to Mingo County Sheriff Eugene Crum. “Here in Mingo County if you're dealing drugs we're gonna be knocking on your door."

Friday's roundup had more than 40 officers simultaneously hitting several communities throughout Mingo County.

With each arrest made, a message is sent to the community according to Chief Rockel.

"Relief is on its way," said Rockel.

A majority of those arrested were from Mingo County, but some were from Columbus, Indiana and Detroit. This has been a ongoing investigation since August.

Sparks credits Sheriff Crum and Drug Task Force Commander C. D. Rockel with their work in helping get the indictments.

“Our smart, fast and flexible approach has proven to be highly successful,” said Sparks.

Sparks also says “Operation Zero Tolerance” is ongoing with more felony drug indictments expected. The next grand jury convenes on February 20.
