HURRICANE, W.Va. (WSAZ) -- Our four legged friends always seem to make life a little bit nicer.
Saturday was a chance to show appreciation for volunteers who take care of those homeless creatures.
The Putnam County Humane Society held a customer appreciation day at the Paws and Shop Store.
The store is full of just about anything and everything. It's all donations and proceeds from the sales helps provide money to care for homeless animals.
Terrie Miske is the treasurer for the Putnam County Humane Society. She tells WSAZ.com that a lot of problems with animals could be erased if people took proper precautions.
"A lot of people get upset with the shelters because they do have to euthanize, but it's not their fault. If people would be responsible and have their pets spayed and neutered, we really could make a huge impact on the problem."
All of the people who help out at the store are volunteers.

Terrie Miske says it all, and I quote, "If people would be responsible and have their pets spayed and neutered..." Being a responsible pet owner also means keeping your pets on your property.
GOOD story. Remember that some if not all espically dogs are smarter than some people ,with smell, sight and memory.Take it as you may but we have seen it too many times,God bless the animals!
okay first if you cant pay the small vet bills for shots, to feed them and to mainly take care of them, then you do not need a pet. My mom rescues and helps these animals. It takes a good and caring person to do this. She has taken in animals who have been abused or have never been socialized and have turned them into the best dog ever. So the next time you want a pet, look towards adopting from a shelter or a rescuer. all you have to do is ask the shelter for the local people who rescue animals.
