PIKEVILLE, Ky. (WSAZ) -- The Pike County Animal Shelter is back open for business, more than two months after flooding devastated that part of eastern Kentucky.

A mudslide affected the operations in Pike County, which forced the shelter to adopt out animals only. Now, as of this week, the shelter is accepting stray animals.

“We are back to normal,” Rose Deskins, Pike County Animal Services Director, said. “There are still workers up here fixing things, but we are working the best we can and have trucks picking up cats and dogs as we speak.”

An animal rescue group from Tennessee traveled to Pike County shortly after the flooding to help in May.

Glad to hear you are in full operation. I adopted a dog there in April and he has been the best family pet you could ask for. Try the shelter before you go pay big bucks for a dog. They need love too.
