ST. ALBANS, W.Va. (WSAZ) -- A man rushed to the hospital after being underwater for nearly 15 minutes has died.

St. Albans Police say that Barry Southall, 43, went under water in the Kanawha River near the St. Albans Roadside Park boat ramp. He was attempting to load his boat onto a trailer.

Divers from the St. Albans Fire Department found Southall about 30 ft. from the boat.

He was taken to Thomas Memorial Hospital, where he was later pronounced dead.

Southall's wife, 8-year-old daughter and another family member were at the scene when Southall went under.

His body has been taken to the State Medical Examiner's Office for an autopsy. The West Virginia Division of Natural Resources is handling the investigation.

Barry was a friend of my from high school and I am very sad to hear this news. My sympathies to his family. He was always a fun guy to be around and always made me laugh. He had a great smile too.

I was a personal friend of Barry's and would like the family to know my thoughts and prayers are with them. Barry was a very outgoing and caring friend who will be sadly missed.
