Many believe those who withstand the toughest test of faith will receive infinite blessings. After a fatal car accident, one local family is thanking God and WSAZ.com readers.
A two car accident near Wheelersburg, Ohio, over the weekend killed one woman and caused another woman to lose her unborn baby girl. But the baby's family says their faith in God is stronger than ever after they found a miracle in this great tragedy.
April Chaffins, recovering from cuts, bruises, and what was internal bleeding, was four and a half months pregnant when she was hit head-on in a catastrophic collision. The accident happened Sunday on U.S. 52 at about 8:30pm. Police say 68-year-old Dorothy Brown, who suffered from Alzheimer's disease, was going the wrong way on Route 52.
April said that if the baby wasn't where it was at the time of the crash, the steering wheel would have gone straight into her organs.
"The placenta of the baby plugged up the hole that kept her from bleeding to death internally," said Gary Chaffins, April's husband. "The doctor said that is a miracle in itself."
April and her family named her unborn daughter Wednesday. Her name: Angel Faith. The family says if not for Angel Faith, April would be dead.
Angel Faith's expected birthday was to be 07-07-07... 7 being God's perfect and now faith inspiring number.
The Chaffins wanted to thank the staff at St. Mary's Hospital for their care and kindness. Gary wanted everyone to know that April will be okay.
They all are so thankful and proud that their story was the most responded to on WSAZ.com. All of your touching comments are right now making that family's spirits soar even higher.
Doctors say April and Gary will be able to have another baby.
Investigators believe Brown was going 20 mph below the speed limit at the time of the accident--and that Brown's medical condition was a factor in the crash.
