The former owners of Putnam General Hospital may not be included in the malpractice lawsuits against Dr. John King.
The Charleston Gazette is reporting a federal judge ruled HCA and its insurer are not liable because King was not in a partnership or joint venture with the hospital.
The recruiting agreement signed by King and the hospital stated he was only an independent contractor.
The judge did rule the hospital and HCA could be held liable if they did not review Dr. King's credential's before signing the agreement in 2002.
Dr. King is facing 110 medical malpractice complaints from his stint at Putnam General.
