Kanawha-Charleston Department Recognized for Smoking Ban
The Kanawha-Charleston Health Department was honored Friday for its Clean Indoor Air Act.

CHARLESTON, W.Va. (WSAZ) -- The Kanawha-Charleston Health Department was honored Friday for its Clean Indoor Air Act.

The West Virginia Wellness Council presented the award to Dr. Rahul Gupta and other health officials during a ceremony at the Charleston Marriott.

The Kanawha-Charleston Health Department was named "Tobacco Champions" for going above and beyond in their efforts to help loosen the grip of tobacco on the Appalachian people.

This is the first year for the award.

The county's smoking ban went into effect in 2004. Since then, the health department has cited a couple of bar owners who critized and ignored the smoking ban.

An adult can not smoke a legal cigarette in an adult only establishment, but Dow can leak a form of cyanide on a daily basis, without having to warn a single citizen. Thanks KCHD for a job well done...I fee SO much safer now.

THANK you Board of Health for doing the job you were hired to do. Poor health affects our citizens, the interest of business to locate here and even the scheduling of federal conferences to Charleston---Federal conferences can not be in towns without CIA regulations in place. GOOD job.....hang tough and protect WV residents......

I am very proud of him for his efforts to learn all the truths that he possibly can, and to then share his information with others to help them. I, along with his children, are very aware of how wise he is. We live with him on a daily basis and see how he conducts himself, not only at home, but also in the public. I am his number one supporter as he is mine. I am very blessed. You can choose to be mean if you like, but if you notice Keith and I will not turn nasty to retaliate against people on here. Lets look at fact: After we left SE Asia, under incredible pressure from the Treasonous political Left in the USA, i.e., the Jane Fondas, the media, SDS, the hippie Bill Ayers types, etc...only God knows how many were murdered by the Communists from Hanoi. The entire region went into slavery and poverty. When confronted with the choice of living in an Uncle Ho-inspired paradise or boarding a rickety boat and heading to sea, thousands went to sea, and many tragically died. Who knows what kind of a prosperous, free, thriving society Vietnam might be today, if the Left had supported the US soldier instead of spitting on them; perhaps the equal of S. Korea, or Japan, or Germany. Hats off to you WW2 vets too, for freeing the Philippines from imperial Japan. Every free breath we breathe we owe to US service personnel; GBU; GBA.

If you have a pulse you have a purpose. The Muslim religion is the fastest growing religion per capita in the United States, especially in the minority races!!! Last month I attended my annual training session that's required for maintaining my state prison security clearance. During the training session there was a presentation by three speakers representing the Roman Catholic, Protestant and Muslim faiths, who explained each of their beliefs. No matter which side you are on, you can help others by showing what things need fixed and give your reasons so others can see why you feel that way and can make informed decisions. I am fairly new to the political discussion. I depend on hearing what others have to say. Then I can decide if it makes sense. Many of us are like that. We have so many people out there who have the ability to lead so very well but with no money or connections they will NEVER get a chance. She could not afford what was needed and finally passed away from it. Now him in all his glory goes on to say she requested to buried in an Obama T-shirt. That is so self-rightous. Its always I I I I I I, me me me me me me. I would think the least he could of done is pay for her treatments if he thought so much of her.

Until then it is simply a matter of survival; Obama, by the 7 month/20 day rule, now owns the terror issue; giving terrorists rights under our constitution, wasting hundreds of millions that could go to soup kitchens for show trials in NYC, reading Miranda rights to the underwear bomber, yes, AG Holder actually made them do that; on the economy, still nothing being done to help; still pushing the Obamacare disaster; Gallup reports 80% disapprove of the liberal congress; it is only a matter of time until O, Nancy and Harry own this issue too, especially with a projection of 9.8% unemployment by years end, and Obama piling more onto the debt in one year than Bush did in 8; the Census should provide some temporary relief for jobs, but when it expires, what helps then? Spend more, tax more, push disastrous bills nobody wants; I hope we can hang on until November.

As for Sarah, I think she should use a teleprompter, even when she goes out to speak to 12 year olds. It would be especially helpful when she campaigns in all 57 states speaking to all the "Corpse-men" in the audience. You do not listen to Rush, you get your information second hand. I do listen; I heard him announce to all that he was going to use the word, it is common for him, he quoted Harry Reid as well, to illustrate that once again, a liberal democrat slanders, just like AlGore's "Extra Chromosome" remark; Obama's Special Olympics joke, etc...

Disabled do you think that will work,maybe special.People should think before they jump on some band wagon just to make noise,how much good will it do if they do away with all labels and consider everyone equal with no special treatment or funding for anything not considered the norm.God forbid they stop all research and funding because they dont know how to write it up for fear of not being political correct and hurting someones feelings.The R word is used in 1000's of bills and documents for funding and research so how do the politicans hope to make this work without it.Seems as good of way as any to waste more tax dollars doing a study for 3 or 4 yrs to figure this out and you can bet someone will come up with that idea also

This is something that should apply to all citizens of Belle. I noticed a big job down on Gardner Ave. being done at the old Maytag place and I think they should have to have a work permit too. It's discriminatory if they don't. Let's get it together Town of Belle.

You have to know the heartbreak of seeing your child suffer so many things through no fault of his own to understand. Sometimes you are the only advocate they have and it is still not enough. They are made fun of, but bless their hearts, they don't understand it and smile through it all. They take what life throws at them and go right on loving everyone. If I did not fight for him, he would not be here. I guess it becomes a habit of fighting for them and sometimes the pain gets so great we jump on a fly. But I would not trade him for a million healthy children. Again, I am sorry. I am having a tough time seeing him suffer and am overly sensitive right now. I will take a break from the yell. Sometimes, Keith you are insensitive, but what would the yell be without you? We would have nothing to yell about. Just kidding. ;)

What do you want, one a day, one per week, etc...when things get really fired up, the Yell is a great feature and we could have a roaring debate on here, which I think is great, good for you guys too, but it would have to be regularly updated and sometimes I know that is apparently difficult. Since there seems to be an overwhelming liberal to conservative ratio on here, and you run about 10 liberal posts to every conservative, lets even it out. Scroll down the page-we have Labels, Morons, Carveon, Anon, Jam, Anon, Jim, Roane Co, etc... for example, I have sent in three posts asking a simple question, why did the National Downs Syndrome Society publish a letter to Rahm Emmanuel about his comments; why did a father of a child with Downs take offense; why did Sarah Palin, mother of a child with Downs, take offense??? Answers, PLEASE????????????????????

He has developmental delays, yet he is not a "R" child. Keith and not Rahm, labeled him that. And now my child is fighting for life again with cancer, yet he is not a "cancer child". He is just a child, like any of yours but happens to have a rougher life. He is so special that any one who is around him can't get enough and want to take him home with them. But I am more disappointed in the ones who picked it up and threw it at Down Syndrome, automatically sticking the label to them. I don't know who started it. It is painful, I have told you that and still you continue. My child is one of the sunniest parts of my life and I have NEVER associated that word to him and I resent those who do. And they are not a "Down's child". They are children who happen to have Down Syndrome. I have agreed with you on most topics that are real issues. But I have basically ignored your "people" attacks. I was wrong to do so because it eventually hit me. I do not care who spoke out about the remark making it refer to Down Syndrome, it is wrong. And bad politics. And we all know two wrongs do not make a right. And it shows what you think about these children. :(

The difference is, Cheney's intent was not to take a group of people who could not defend themselves, (Downs Syndrome, "R" folks) disparage them, and use them to insult folks who can, as was quite ably demonstrated by the various reactions of WV. Emmanuel's true feelings about defenseless people came out as an insult toward his liberal pals. Granted, he apologized, but so did Cheney. Speaking of, I read where a father of a Downs Syndrome child was offended by Emmanuel's comments, he, as a father, apparently applied Rahm's words towards all who face challenges; contacted Sarah Palin, mother of a Downs child, who publicly excoriated Rahm; the National Downs Syndrome Society published a public letter to Emmanuel, (Why?) voicing their offense to his comments; what I don't understand is, why is anybody upset at anyone besides Rahm Emmanuel in this entire episode?

Supplies, equipment, services, and people are losing their jobs. The people in charge need to be held accountable and maybe even prosecuted. The Board of Education members, the former Superintendent, the County Accounting person, and anyone else who authorized spending funds WITHOUT MAKING SURE the money was there before spending the money. Don't let them get away with it!

On the same day this uproar started, our president made a comment that I have heard no one complain about. Overlooked here is the humorous aspect of the whole fiasco. Rahm directed this profane fusillade at LIBERALS who had come to visit, to express displeasure over the lack of success in forcing Obamacare on a public that clearly does not want it. Does anyone see the irony here? Liberals are the ones in America who make racist comments, pick on the helpless, etc...and apparently Obama and Co. don't think much of YOU liberals either.

However, neither had anything to do with Down Syndrome and I am very offended by the comparison. If S.Palin made a link to that comment with her child, she either has not come to terms with her child's uniqueness or using him as a political pawn and it is sad either way. It is my understanding the word used ended with "ed", not an "S" so was not name calling, however ugly it was. To link it to Down Syndrome is wrong! A child with Down Syndrome may be slower in academics than their peers, but may excel in other areas, and always excel in the area of love. Mine can do many things his older "normal" sibling cannot do. We can learn a lot from these special children. I recommend you get to know some. But please leave them out of this political fray! This kind of politics needs to stop. Keep with the REAL issues that are destroying our country and stop with the mud slinging. Words will not bring our country down. Foolishness will.

I think someone forgot to change to a new week on Sunday and the yell was getting quite long. They finally changed it to the correct week. We act like this is all they have to do. Apparently someone at the station needs a spine transplant, or is a liberal, doing as liberals do, censoring differing opinions and truth. I am referring to the comments made by the President's Chief of Staff, Rahm Emmanuel, when he insulted developmentally challenged folks by referring to a group of liberals aggravating Obama about health care, calling them the "F" word and the "R" word. (Isn't it pathetic in America, we can't say some words? Wimpy enough for you?) Google "Rahm Emmanuel apology" to find out what he said. The comments were made last August and Sarah Palin called him on his incredible rudeness and forced an apology. What's up? Do you guys protect this bunch now too? IF it is an oversight, and you have simply missed my THREE posts, apologies in advance. Get with it, it is an incredible wimp who censors comments.

I say ban them from a couple of games, or do like they did at the football games, and move them to the upper deck. Dont let them close to the players or coaches. But, we all know WSAZ is jumping all over this because of the"rivalry" with good old MU. When the Mountaineers came to H-town a couple of years ago, The so called "F-Bomb was plastered all up and down 6th and 7th Ave. on white sheets with Big Green Letters. So, just remember, there are students and fans with bad language and bad behavior at all universities. This is not an isolated incident that happens only in Morgantown. I am sad that I went to watch my favorite college team play and have been dubbed a bad fan with what happened out of a few students. Be fair WSAZ!!

First off. The cars do not just accelerate on their own. Stop being dumb. Just as Toyota claimed that the accelerator MAY or may not return to the idle position when you take your foot off of the pedal. But the way people like Vanessa that clearly made up her story just to get on the news. All I ask is that people please get the facts before making your final assumptions. I own a Toyota just as well and will continue to own one until the day I die, because every car has its small problem and I have found that Toyota fixes those problems and hides nothing. After all is investigated, it would not surprise me if all the problems boil down to an issue with computer chips. In 1984, I had new a 6 cyl. Ford Mustang. One day after starting the car, letting it warm up and shifting from park to drive, the car took off! My foot was not on the gas! I had to put both feet and all my weight on the brake to control it. The tires were spinning and smoking right there in the driveway! This lasted for a minute or so, then the RPM's decreased and I was able to shift the car back to park and promptly called the dealership. They fixed it & said it was a bad computer chip. Once fixed, I never had any more problems, but that was certainly scary and I had the tire marks to prove it. This again, was in 1984. 2010 is probably no different. I wish they still made cars that the average Joe could work on - sans computer chips. I hope they solve the Toyota mystery issue soon.

All that person has done is brought disgrace on the team and the university by doing something like this. Espn will have a field day with what happened. Even after seeing the pictures and making an effort to aquaint myself with the island topography, I do not understand why there is no better control. It would be good if someone could tell the American public who have been generous exactly what progress has been made and what progress we will see in the coming weeks & months.
