PRESTONSBURG, Ky. (WSAZ) -- If you want to smoke in Prestonsburg, you'll have to do it outside or at home.
Monday was the first business day since the smoking ban started.
Most supporters say it is a health issue, but others say their rights are being violated.
Harold Burchell smoked for 18 years. He gave up the habit, and is glad Prestonsburg restaurants are now smoke-free.
"I do believe people have a right to smoke, that would be their choice. However, I also understand the medical problems caused by smoking," Burchell said.
Jerry Stone is not a smoker, but says the ban doesn't really concern him one way or the other.
"It doesn't affect me either way. I don't mind if people smoke. But I don't smoke, so I'd like it if they don't," Stone said.
Prestonsburg Mayor Jerry Fannin says smoke-free buildings are better for everyone.
"What's the best for the majority of people, and like I said this was a health issue. That's the reason that council decided to go non-smoking," Fannin said.

While we are banning things, why don't we ban screaming children from theaters, restaurants, etc. Oh, and all those facial body piercings are disgusting. Seriously, we all have the right to not go to a smoking establishment as we also have the right to get up and leave our food and the movies or leave our shopping unfinished when we are confronted by things which we do not like. I know smoking is bad, but so are these things I mentioned, screaming children give me a headache and upset my digestion. So I guess we need to seperate all our dislikes and have private rooms for smoking, children, etc. Do we really want to live like this?
Mary, driving while intoxicated is already illegal and has been for quite some time. That involves harming someone else with your addiction. So does smoking in public places and exposing others to secondhand smoke.
Get an electric cig, these things are pretty cool.Have had one for about two weeks and have cut down on my intake by more than half.Even smoked on a airliner and nobody even noticed.
